Latah Soil and Water Conservation District

2006 Poster and Speech Contests

The Latah Soil and Water Conservation District participates in the annual IASCD poster and speech contest by inviting students from schools throughout Latah County to compete in the contest.  The poster contest includes grades 4 through 6, and the speech contest includes grades 9 through 12.
This year's Idaho Association of Soil Conservation District's (IASCD) speech and poster contest was a big success.  Students from Genesee, Potlatch, Troy and Kendrick submitted posters and gave speeches on the topic "Water Wise".  They participated in three levels of competition, including the District contest held in Moscow, the Division II contest held in Lewiston, and the State contest that took place in Boise.

2006 Speech Contest

Three high school students competed in the speech contest.  Kristin Myers from Genesee School took first place honors at both the District and Division II speech contests.  She went on to place third at the State contest.  The contestants each gave 5-minute speeches in front of a panel of expert judges.

2006 Poster Contest

Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders submitted posters that were scrutinized by District employees and Latah County Commissioners.  The colorful posters showed an amazing amount of artistic skill and creativity.

This year's winners included Payton Parkins, Genesee School, with 1st place in the District, Division II and State competitions.  Kamri Sams, also from Genesee School, wins 2nd place in the District contest.  Katlyn Mechling, Genesee School, received 3rd place in the District contest.

These contests would not be successful without the participation of the schools, teachers, judges, students and their families.  We appreciate the students' willingness to learn about conservation and to share their knowledge with the public in an effort to increase the awareness of environmental issues.  We would like to thank everyone for their participation.
