North Central Idaho Grazing Conference

The annual North Central Idaho Grazing Conference is sponsored by the University of Idaho Extension System, Idaho Association of Conservation (IASD) Districts Division 2, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Idaho State Soil Conservation Commission.  The Latah Soil and Water Conservation District, through its association with IASD, is also involved in the event.

The fourth annual North Central Idaho Grazing Conference was held on Thursday, January 17, 2008, at the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds in Lewiston.  The conference opened with a trade show featuring pasture and range equipment and supplies.

The morning session included a presentation by Dr. Jim Gerrish from May, Idaho. Dr. Gerrish has published books and articles on grazing and has given many presentations both nationally and internationally on the topic of grazing management. Dr. Gerrish's talk covered a broad range of topics regarding livestock grazing management.

The afternoon session included a presentation given by John Pearson, a producer from Colfax, and a talk on recommended supplements for cattle grazing on low quality forages given by Dr. Jason Ahola, University of Idaho Extension Beef Specialist from Caldwell.

The conference concluded with a panel discussion on the control of annual grasses and revegetation of pastures and rangelands. The panel included ranchers, researchers and allied industry representatives.
