The 2007 Speech Contest started off with a beep from a timer on October 11th at the Federal
Courthouse in Moscow, Idaho. This was the site of the District level speech competition sponsored by the Idaho Association
of Soil Conservation Districts (IASCD) and hosted by the Latah Soil and Water Conservation District.

Two high school students from Genesee School, Kelsey Kinzer and Bret Wommack, each gave a 5-minute speech on this year's
topic, "Conservation's Power" in front of a panel of local conservation experts: Janet Hohle, Carrie Treccani,
and Bob Ries. When the timer beeped for the last time, Bret had won the second place ribbon and a check for $40. Kelsey
was awarded the first place ribbon, a check for $50, and an invitation to compete in the IASCD Division II competition.

Kelsey went on to compete at the IASCD Division II speech contest held in Craigmont, Idaho. She presented
her speech on no-till farming and direct seed practices to 30 people. State Conservationist Rich Sims and Idaho County Soil
and Water Conservation District Supervisor Leon Slichter acted as judges. Kelsey was awarded the first place ribbon, a certificate,
a check for $100, and a seat at the IASCD State competition in Boise, Idaho.Three hundred and fifty
people attended the IASCD State Conference in Boise, Idaho. On Monday, December 3rd, they listened to high school students
from all over Idaho give their speeches. Kelsey came away with 4th place honors. If you know
